First ice rink of the season opened in Canary Wharf

London’s longest running seasonal ice rink has returned to the heart of Canary Wharf this weekend.

The festive outdoor activity will take over Canada Square Park for 18 weeks from Saturday 21st October 2023 to Saturday 24th February 2024, covering Halloween to Valentine’s Day.

Despite a debate on whether it is too early in the year for it to open, the rink has gained positive feedback from the public and had a successful opening weekend.

Managing Director at Ice Rink Canary Wharf, Samantha Rush said: “This year’s rink is set to be our best one yet full of music and festivities, with skaters able to enjoy new themed skating sessions throughout the season including a Halloween Spectacular and 80’s, 90’s and Soul Classics nights.

“We are excited to see everyone get their skates on the ice this year, and urge visitors to get their tickets for this year’s skating season before they sell out.”

The rink spans 1,275sqm, with a transparent ceiling and The Grandstand Bar which has been transformed into an après-skate alpine oasis, serving up winter warmers and refreshments for both skaters and spectators.

Themed skating sessions will be held throughout the season, including a Halloween Spectacular and 80’s, 90’s and Soul Classics nights, meaning there is something for every skater to enjoy a twirl on the ice to this winter.

Skaters can use Canary Wharf’s free app to stay up to date on the latest upcoming festive events, discounts and retailer promotions.

The ice rink will be open every day between Saturday 21st October 2023 and Saturday 24th February 2024, except Christmas Day.

The schools’ programme will also return, allowing children from local schools to skate for free on weekday mornings throughout the season.

Tickets can be purchased here.
