Community driven artists co-run an art project called Sundial Arts in Bethnal Green, which aims to empower creativity and deepens connections to nature within the city’s community.
Co-founders Babette Van Gerwen and William Kennedy conducted a workshop series titled What’s That There?, which created the opportunity for individuals to connect the themes of trees, space, birds, and water with fine art, fostering a deeper relationship between themselves and the natural world.
The initiative cultivates the freedom to make mistakes without judgment, urging communities to regard creativity as a crucial yet often neglected aspect of public health.
Van Gerwen said: “After the workshops I feel very fulfilled because it helps people feel more relaxed, grounded, and they have always learned something new.”
The two demonstrate the uniqueness and vitality of the natural world through power painting, performance, and film.
