WATCH: London hosts Europe’s biggest Day of the Dead festival

The spirit of Mexico came to London when Hackney Bridge hosted Europe’s biggest Day of the Dead festival on 2-3 November.

Hosted by Mexibrit, which promotes Mexican cultures and traditions across the UK, the weekend saw members of London’s Latin American community coming together to celebrate with live music, dancing, food and ‘ofrendas’, or offerings to the dead.

The festival, which honours family and friends who have passed, dates back to the Aztecs and in 2008 it became a part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

London’s Mexican community is now looking to bring these historic festivities to the UK.

Watch below to find out why it is so important to celebrate Day of the Dead in the UK.
