Millions of Muslims across the globe are getting ready to celebrate Eid ul-Adha, this week.
Eid ul-Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice in Islam, is the second biggest Muslim festival after Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.
Eid ul-Adha is celebrated on the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar – falling on 28 June this year.
The festivities last for three whole days. Muslims worldwide will be praying in mosques on the first day.
To remember Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, followers of Islam traditionally slaughter an animal after prayer.
After that, the meat is divided into thirds. One part is kept for the family, one is given to friends and relatives, and the third is distributed to those in need.
