Numerous London MPs have joined the calls for Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister.
More than 30 Conservative resignations have now been handed in after the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid decided they could no longer stand by Boris Johnson.
David Lammy, Labour MP for Tottenham and Shadow Foreign Secretary told SWL categorically that the Prime Minister should resign.
He said: “In the last 12 hours, the Chancellor, the Health Secretary and more than 30 other leading Conservatives have finally resigned from Boris Johnson’s lying and the law-breaking Tory government.
“But let’s be honest, there’s nothing courageous about their decision to quit.
“If they had integrity they would have stopped defending him and resigned from government months ago.
“The rot in the Conservative Party runs all the way down. Only a change of government will give the British public the fresh start it deserves.”
The Prime Minister has come under pressure to resign over his response to the Chris Pincher misconduct allegations.
Among those turning in resignation letters was Hornchurch and Upminster MP Julia Lopez, who stood down as Minister of State for Media, Data, and Digital Infrastructure.
Sarah Olney, Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park said: “Ministers who have defended the PM’s dishonest and shameful conduct for months are now abandoning the sinking ship at a time when people need them most.
“This barrage of resignations has left the country without direction in a time of crisis, and is embarrassing Britain on the international stage.
“While I am glad that they have finally seen sense, ministers have timed their resignations to have maximum political impact without a thought for the public’s needs.
“Boris Johnson must resign, but his supporters must also stop playing politics while regular people suffer.”
