Record numbers of visitors were drawn in by an exhibition held at a small gallery in East London exploring the connection between sex work and art.
Working Girls was held at Gallery 46 in Whitechapel, a contemporary independent gallery supporting new and upcoming artists, housed in a pair of renovated Georgian houses in the shadow of Whitechapel hospital.
Exhibitions curator Mathilde Friis put the project together as part of her PhD.
Friis said: “I became interested in the sex industry specifically here in London because there’s so much art happening in that scene, and there’s a lot of artists who support there work by doing sex work.”
She further explained what the project was exploring, and what message she hoped to impart on the public who visit.
