Pro Palestinian bus stop ads calling spotted throughout Tower Hamlets

Pro-Palestinian bus stop ads seen across Tower Hamlets for the second time

Bus stop ads across Tower Hamlets have become filled with pro-Palestinian posters.

According to organisers of the bus stop ad campaign last week, 37 pro-Palestinian bus stop ads had been placed on 29 different bus stops across the borough within one night.

The bus stop ads were put up in the night of October 5, two days before the commemoration for October 7 victims began, and many had ‘Right To Resist’ written on them.

Abdullah, a local organiser who participated in the bus stop ad campaign, said: “I think after a year of genocide, it’s better that people can remember the faces of the Palestinian victims while understanding the right to resist.

“This isn’t the first campaign we’ve done something like this rather we think it would be better if people try something new seeing as people are becoming too used to marches.”

When asked about what other campaigns they have done, he said that there was previously a flag campaign in Tower Hamlets in which Palestinian flags went up on lampposts across the borough.

The flags were taken down after some time with Tower Hamlets council ordering their removal.

Tower Hamlets council have been approached for comment.

When asked whether the council should remove the bus stop ads, councillor Musthak Ahmed said: “I hope so.

“It depends how it is perceived by the masses.”

This isn’t the first time bus stop ads have gone up in Tower Hamlets.

Back in December, posters were placed on bus stop ads with the same ‘Right to Resist’ messaging.

The conflict in the Middle East goes back to the 20th century but erupted into open warfare again after the attacks on Israel by Hamas.
